Kerry graduated with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from SFU and has played numerous sports, including hockey, baseball, soccer, swimming (Coquitlam Sharks) and basketball (MRSS and Douglas College). In 2009, he obtained his CSEP Certified Exercise Physiologist (CEP) and CSEP High Performance Specialist™ (HPS) designation, which is the highest fitness testing designation in Canada and certifies exercise physiologists to test and train high performance athletes. It also allows the CEP to prescribe exercise for chronic disease states and metabolic disorders such as diabetes, cardiac conditions (post-MI or surgery), hypertension, hyperlipidemia, MS, MD, obesity, post-stroke and lung function disorders. He has his Fascial Stretch Therapy certification and Soft-Tissue Release (STR) coursework and does sports stretching for athletes and non-athletes. Kerry has rehabilitated ICBC injury clients, athletes and private clients for 30 years. He has trained athletes in a variety of sports including: BC provincial speed skaters, hockey, baseball, lacrosse, soccer, rugby and basketball. He has been performing entrance testing for Justice Institute of BC’s firefighter program. Kerry was an on-ice instructor and assisted in the development of the dryland training program for RPM hockey school, trained and supervised staff and delivered programming along with other on-ice instructors including NHL’s former player and current Canucks TV colour commentator John Garrett. He was the clinic coordinator for the Sun Run training program for 15 years and has conducted marathon, half-marathon training and injury prevention programs. He has conducted numerous seminars and education courses for large groups (School District #42, District of Maple Ridge, Ridge Health Unit) on a variety of topics including cardiovascular health and disease prevention, back rehabilitation, injury prevention for various sports, and other topics encompassing exercise recovery, nutrition, running biomechanics, hydration and periodization. His current passions include playing hockey, basketball, running, music, film, writing, playing bass and singing, public health and education.
